For Now

(C) R.L.K.

Winter lingers. The old paths
are useless now, obscured by
fallen snow. No one comes or
goes beneath the leafless trees.
So we wait, in a world at
pause, just as spring is waiting
on the far side of the clouds.

Afar

(C) R.L.K.

now
in winter,      a sadness
from some-
where;
              see it
in the
slow,
or no-flow
of the river /    hear it
in the surging
of the wind
that is
urging you home

Three Haiku for Somewhat Later

(C) R.L.K.
1.
Hatless and alone,
the scarecrow stands silently
in the rain-soaked field.

2.
An abandoned shed;
morning drizzle streaks the dust
on the cracked windows.

3.
Into the wind and
up toward the clouds the white gulls
rise in silent flight.

Autumn Haiku

(C) R.L.K.

1.
Mist from the river --
a duck’s sudden flight: whirring
wings beating water.

2.
Through the gaps between
the branches of the beech tree:
cold autumn moonlight.

Dreaming in the Immensity of It

(C) R.L.K.

A big moon over
the highway on an
August night. Wild
wind whistling while cars
cut through air heavy
with unshed rain. As
summer rushes to end,
we rush to what end, hours
before midnight, and already
rolling on tomorrow's road?

What's Already Happening

(C) R.L.K.

a rain that seems
  to have always been
    falling, a night
      of breezy whispers;

there’s just
  this to do:
    listen
       at the window,

 watch shadows
    drift
       in the weakly-lit
          courtyard

while big
   round
      drops
         shimmer in the wind

Two Haiku

(C) R.L.K.

1.
Quiet attention --
that shadow at the window:
a fluttering leaf.

2.
Windy misty day --
willow blossoms are flying
in all directions.
